The Man with the Golden Postcard
Girls, Gun and more girls are some iconic images of the James Bond movie series. Agent Mallow reports from her most recent assignment in which she visited the Designing 007 exhibit at the Melbourne Museum. You can view a full report of the mission by clicking here. In an act of bravery Agent Mallow went above the line of duty and mailed me a postcard. This action put the 007 movie franchise in a commanding lead in term of postcards received in reference to a movie series. That’s James Bond: 2 and Harry Potter: 1, for all you avid Going Postal readers out there.

In my first James Bond themed blog post, License To Mail, I gave five 007 facts. This wasn’t good enough! This time around I am going to dig deeper and share some interesting factoids even I didn’t know about… and that’s saying something because I am a huge James Bond fan.

Casino Royale – A story that proves the third time’s a charm.

The popular film Casino Royale was released in 2006 and was on Ian Fleming’s first 007 novel with the same title. However most people don’t know that Mr. Bond was first portrayed by Barry Nelson in 1954 when CBS paid Fleming $1,000 for the rights to air a one-hour television special of Casino Royale. This was part of CBS’ Climax Mystery Theater of the mid 1950s. As the special was restricted to one-hour many details were lost, however the show retained much of the novel’s violence.

Casino Royale was later released as a spy comedy film in 1967. The film’s slogan was, “Casino Royale is too much… for one James Bond!” referring to Bond’s antics to mislead his advisories in which six other agents pretended to be 007. The flick received negative reviews as the film was panned for a baffling and disorganized storyline. This is one of two films that was not made by Eon Productions and is generally not mentioned in the franchise’s history.

With that being said I will leave you with a lesser famous Bond quote from Ian Fleming’s Live and Let Die…

“Hm,’ said Bond. ‘Bogeyman stuff.”
