Dubuque
This postcard comes from Dubuque, Iowa, where I now commute for my new day job. Most cities I’ve looked into have a rich history. Dubuque is certainly no different. For this update I’ve decided to look into where the city’s name comes from.

SEAN PRESENTS: A SHORT LOOK INTO DUBUQUE’S NAME

The city of Dubuque gets its name from its first settler, Julien Dubuque, who arrived in 1785. He was given permission in 1788 by the Spanish government, the ruling body at that time, to mine the area’s lead deposits. Dubuque died in 1810, but the local minerals drew many settles allowing the city to prosper.
